a veritable utopia

OMG! Who has two thumbs and is SUPER thankful for this cooler weather?

THIS GIRL!!!!

This time last weekend, the boys and I were sweating our sweet patooties off at Utopiafest. Speaking of...

How was it you ask? EXHAUSTING! Marvelous, but exhausting. Although I gotta say, if we are going to be campers... I sure like camping where there is plenty of live music.

Joe agrees ... as long as he is equipped with the proper sound-muffling head gear. Oh. And hammocks help too.

Lots of hammocks. This one was part of "Camp REI" at the fest. REI set up tents, games, and a cool trailer with info on our National Parks. Plus they gave away some pretty rad stuff and had a kitchen available for cooking your food.

And speaking of games. Joe may have found his calling as a professional disc golf player.

Ladders ... not so much. He's more suited for sitting around the campsite trading stories with dad.

And Will...

Who, incidentally thought Ladders was more of a game of destruction than skill.

Here's a shot of our camp set-up. The kid's table was key. You'll notice only one smallish tent which we thought we could sleep in as a family. On one air mattress.

That did NOT happen. Although Joe and I were very comfortable in the Highlander with the sunroof open.

Utopia fest was REALLY kid friendly. Special thanks to this amazing volunteer (in the background) who patiently transformed my eldest son into a particularly fierce tiger.

Youngest son was happy sans face paint.

But the boys' favorite activity (aside from the music) was helping to build an outdoor adobe pizza oven. Something about the combination of barefeet, mud, and getting to use an awesome water gun made these kids work hard.

Mr. Howell had it the roughest. Young master William is going through a "daddy-only" phase. As a result, Mr. Howell spent the weekend with this baby bun permanently on his shoulders.

Except when we were listening to Man Man and drinking pink lemonade slushies.

There were also planes flying over the festival dropping Utopiafest merchandise. Willie scored a sweet pair of pink Utopiafest panties. He refused to give them up.

A proud worker showing off the finished pizza oven.

Willie was our little night owl.
And he was very sad when the bands packed up and it was time to go home.

Ok. enough reminiscing ... gotta get this motley crew ready for the longhorn game. TEXAS FIGHT! See you there!

olive juice, okay?
